The Shining Levels, John Wyatt

Shining-Levels-John-Wyatt.JPG

John Wyatt’s story of finding peace and solitude in the wild is one which many would like the opportunity to tell. As Neil Ansell states in his review on Caught By The River, The Shining Levels is “an old-fashioned book in the best possible sense of the term”'; a diary of life in the Lake District comparable to Thoreau and Shepherd, sharing the delights of the landscape not for the purpose of writing a book but simply because he couldn’t not do so. To top it off, the pages are illustrated with exquisite line drawings by Elisabeth Trimby.

John Wyatt MBE (1925–2006) was a British writer. He was the first Warden (since renamed Ranger) for the Lake District National Park and at the time of publication of The Shining Levels, Head Warden, being awarded an MBE in recognition for his work for the National Park. His books include The Bliss of Solitude: A Conservationist's Tour of the Lakes, Cumbria: The Lake District and its County and Reflections on the Lakes.
